Wild Garden development

Whether you want to gently welcome in the wild, or head for full on feral in any garden, you need the tools to make it work. Simply stopping maintenance and allowing the wild to take over is not an appropriate approach. One size definitely does not fit all situations aklthough there are universal principles.

I work with private clients, designers and local authorities to explore the possibilities for starting wild areas from scratch or transitioning existing gardens and public spaces into wilder and generally resilient areas. I help clients fully to understand the principles and practices of planting resilient wilder gardens, discuss and illustrate ways of developing and maintaining different grassy areas, devising and creating resilient plant communities and the maintenance regimes required for different areas of a wilder garden.

Consultations begin with a site visit, then a broad plan will be devised and regular site visits can be built into the process. In larger schemes I can either work directly with chosen landscapers, or provide an overview and oversee the process when necessary.

Expectations are important. Wilder spaces need careful management, especially at the start. Going wilder is not a quick fix but a long term solution.
